Students learned how to utilize colored pencils to achieve photo-realistic works of art, emulating the process and style of artist Kehinde Wiley. We then worked with acrylic paint to complete a patterned background as it relates to the person depicted.

With the term modern art one might picture simplistic canvases displaying a singular color. My piece plays on the notion that modern artists actually started with a more complex imagery for their monochromatic paintings. At a quick glance this appears to be a bland, typical paint by number scene anyone can paint. But with further inspection the only number present is the color 4, leaving the impression that, if actually painted, the detailed drawing vanishes under a single color of paint.
