Inspired by René Magritte's Treachery of Images. Instead of a pipe a telephone of the same era is depicted. Today's modern telephone contrasts greatly from that of the past, proving some truth in the statement, "Ceci n'est pas un téléphone." (This is not a telephone)

Readable QR code which links to a digital image of The Treachery of Technology 1, a painting of a rotary phone done in the same style of Rene Magritte's Treachery of Images. It reveals what the viewer is looking at is not a telephone, but rather a digital image of a painting of a telephone featured on a website accessible via a smartphone. A mundane symbol, the QR code is painted in oil on canvas, then ornately framed.
